Somewhere along the line I started doing video tests before the shoots. Simple, lo-fi, often taken with just my phone, videos that helped figure out timing, vfx tests and just overall a more in-depth look at the commercial than any boards or animatic can do. Here are a few those!
Science Moms "Leaf Blower" Test Shoot vs Final
This shoot happened to be at my home (we had the perfect sliding glass doors, that sealed the deal) so I had the opportunity to “scout” a lot more often than usual. And for that reason, my daughter stepped in for the timing tests here.

My favorite is doing the tests during the tech scout. Crew steps in as the actors and with all key departments on location, we get to test out the angles and ideas.
